The closest hotels to Széchenyi Baths are Mirage Medic Hotel and ibis Styles Budapest Heroes Square, both about a 10-minute walk away on Dózsa György út. No hotel stands inside City Park or connects directly to the bath. Within 15 minutes you also have Hotel Benczúr, Alice Hotel and Mamaison Hotel Andrassy on the quiet upper end of Andrássy út. If you want a hotel pool or sauna as well, stay near Oktogon and take the M1 metro, which reaches the bath in about 10 minutes from the city centre.

Which hotel is best for a first bath trip?
Mirage Medic Hotel is the best choice if being close to Széchenyi matters most. It is a 37-room, 4-star hotel in a late-19th-century villa, about 100 metres from Hősök tere metro station and around 10 minutes on foot from the bath. The hotel sells a “Thermal package” that includes Széchenyi entry. It has massage but no pool.
ibis Styles Budapest Heroes Square is the practical alternative at the same distance. It has 139 rooms and a garage, and it accepts pets. If you have read “ibis Budapest Heroes Square” elsewhere, that is the old name; the hotel now trades under the ibis Styles brand.
Where can you stay on a budget near City Park?
Hotel Benczúr is the lower-cost option within walking distance. It is a 3-star hotel with about 159 rooms on Benczúr utca, a leafy street of embassies about 15 minutes from the bath. The hotel says its standard rooms were fully renovated in 2025. Reviews still describe some older rooms as dated, so book a renovated standard room rather than the cheapest category.
The ibis Styles above is the other value choice. Both are a short walk from Bajza utca or Hősök tere on the M1, so the city centre is about 10 minutes away.
Which hotels near Széchenyi feel more upmarket?
There is no 5-star hotel within a 20-minute walk of Széchenyi Baths. The upmarket options near City Park are 4-star or boutique hotels in historic buildings on upper Andrássy út.
- Mamaison Hotel Andrassy occupies a 1937 Bauhaus building with 68 rooms and the Andrássy Garden restaurant. It has no spa on site; guests can use the sauna and gym at the sister Mamaison Residence Izabella, about 800 metres away. The official website showed rooms from about 41,000 HUF (~€113) a night for the following 90 days when checked in September 2026.
- Alice Hotel Budapest is a 19th-century villa at Andrássy út 116, designed by Mór Kallina. Some rooms can be joined, which suits families.
- D50 Hotel is a 36-room, 4-star hotel in a restored 1895 building on Damjanich utca, in District VII (Erzsébetváros). It also hosts events, so ask for a quiet room.

Is there a hotel with a pool near Széchenyi Baths?
Lion’s Garden Hotel in District XIV (Zugló) is the only hotel close to City Park that we found with its own indoor pool. The pool is open from 17:00 to 21:00, and the hotel also has a sauna and gym. It is about a 20-minute walk from Széchenyi, with no metro station nearby. We could not find an official hotel website, so check facilities on the booking page before you reserve.
If a hotel spa matters more than walking distance, stay near Oktogon instead:
- Mystery Hotel Budapest has the Secret Garden Spa, with a jacuzzi, sauna and steam room, free for guests from 10:00 to 21:00. The hotel occupies an 1896 Freemasons’ palace and opened in 2019. Vörösmarty utca station is four M1 stops from Széchenyi fürdő.
- Hotel Oktogon Haggenmacher is a 121-room, 4-star hotel in the 1880s Haggenmacher Palace, with a sauna, wellness area and gym. Oktogon station is five M1 stops from the bath.
How do you get from the city centre to Széchenyi Baths?
Take the M1 metro. The line runs under Andrássy út from Vörösmarty tér to Mexikói út, and the whole route takes 11 minutes. From Deák Ferenc tér to Széchenyi fürdő station is 8 stops, about 10 minutes. The station is inside City Park, a couple of minutes’ walk from the bath.

Is City Park a good area to stay in?
Yes, if the baths are the main reason for your trip. The streets around Heroes’ Square and upper Andrássy út are quiet, green and mostly residential. City Park also holds Budapest Zoo, Vajdahunyad Castle, the House of Music Hungary and the Museum of Ethnography, all within 15 minutes on foot.
The trade-off is distance from the river. The Danube and the Parliament are about 3 km away, so evenings in the Jewish Quarter or on the riverbank mean a metro ride back. If you want nightlife on your doorstep, stay in District VII and take the M1 to the bath instead.

Which Budapest hotels have their own thermal baths?
No hotel near City Park has its own thermal water. The hotels with thermal water piped in are on or near Margaret Island in the Danube, on the other side of the city centre from Széchenyi: Ensana Thermal Margaret Island, its linked sister hotel Ensana Grand Margaret Island, and hotels such as Danubius Hotel Helia.
If you have read that you can stay at the Gellért and walk straight into its bath, that information is out of date. The Gellért Hotel closed in December 2021 and is being rebuilt as the Mandarin Oriental Gellért, planned to open in 2027. The Gellért Baths closed separately on 1 October 2025, and the operator expects to reopen in 2028. Read which outdoor thermal baths are open in winter for the baths you can use instead.
What should you check before you book?
Check three things: the walking route, the room category and what the price includes.
- Walking route. Hotels on Dózsa György út are across a wide, busy road from the park. Allow the full 10 minutes, and more with luggage.
- Room category. At older hotels such as Hotel Benczúr, the cheapest rooms may not be the renovated ones.
